Welcome to Nouvelle Noire
Like the transition from Winter to Spring, I too have undergone a transition. Having blogged at my last site for almost 2 years, I felt that it no longer reflected who I am or who I want to be. Therefore I decided to launch Nouvelle Noire, as I have always been drawn to black. Black is simple, edgy, mysterious and eternally stylish all at the same time.
Coco Chanel once said '“Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.” I completely agree. If I'm not wearing all black, I am wearing a monochrome outfit of black and white.
Keeping to the theme of 'Transitions', and with Spring fast approaching, despite the British weather, I have put together some pieces that can be taken effortlessly from Winter to Spring.
When viewing the SS14 collections in September, I was pleasantly surprised to see an abundance of black gracing the catwalk. Until now, S/S fashion had never really appealed to me, due to my penchant of all things noire, and fashions insistence to bombard us with florals and pastels each September. However designers such as Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, Comme de Garcons and of course, Sarah Burton for McQueen, showed striking, all black ensembles. With the common theme of empowered women, these collections drew me in like a moth to the flame. Giving the strong message of women being able to show, through their attire, who they are and who they want to be, the SS14 trend echoes my personal feeling and the transition I am venturing into, both in my style and personal choices.
Above I have put together some items that will update, without upturning, a wardrobe. Although it may be spring, it rains the majority of the time in Britain so these Jeffrey Campbell Coltrane cut out leather boots are perfect to see you through the next season. The Saint Laurent leather shift dress gives an edge to the traditionally elegant Little Black Dress, and high street champions MissGuided do an amazingly similar faux leather shift too. Add a fedora, some silver rings & this H&M marled oversized jacket to create the perfect later winter outfit. Despite previously making my distaste of florals in spring apparent, AllSaints have nailed 'winter florals' with these leggings. Finally, the ladylike, tulle midi skirt from Topshop can be contrasted with the slouchy 'Tres Jolie' tee from H&M to give a grungy vibe. Grunge is definitely sticking around for the next season, much to my appreciation.
The Oxford Dictionary defines 'Transition' as follows:
"the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another"
which I believe accurately sums up both this post, and my launch of Nouvelle Noire.
